What is Telehealth?
Telehealth refers to remote delivery of services using technology like video calls or digital platforms. It allows us to assess, diagnose, and treat speech and language disorders without the need for in-person appointments. This enables greater accessibility to therapy for those of us who live rurally or remotely, experience difficulties with mobility, have busy schedules, or simply want to complete therapy from the comfort of our own homes.

Benefits of Telehealth

-
Increased Accessibility: Telehealth eliminates geographical barriers, allowing access to speech pathology services from anywhere with an internet connection, particularly benefiting those in rural or remote areas.
-
Convenience: Telehealth eliminates the need for travel to and from appointments, saving time and reducing stress for everyone.
-
Flexibility: Telehealth offers flexible scheduling options, making it easier for us to fit in therapy sessions to our busy schedules.
-
Continuity of Care: Telehealth ensures continuity of care, allowing consistent therapy even when we are unable to attend in-person appointments due to illness, travel, or other circumstances.
-
Cost-Effectiveness: Telehealth may reduce costs associated with transportation and time off work or school, making speech pathology services more affordable and accessible for clients.
-
Improved Outcomes: Research has shown that telehealth speech pathology can be as effective as traditional in-person therapy in improving speech, language, and communication skills, leading to positive outcomes for clients.
Telehealth - Frequently Asked Questions
How do telehealth sessions work?
Here at Pomelo Speechie we complete session through Zoom (or Microsoft Teams if Zoom doesn't suit your needs). Telehealth for speech pathology involves scheduling an appointment with your speech pathologist (we will send you a recurring Zoom or Teams link through email) and joining a secure video call at the designated time. During the session, you'll interact with your speech pathologist in real-time, discussing concerns, participating in therapy exercises, and receiving guidance just as you would in a traditional face-to-face appointment. Zoom and Microsoft Teams' features, such as screen sharing and interactive tools, allow for effective communication and collaboration between you and your speech pathologist from the comfort of your own home.
What equipment is required?
To complete therapy online you will need reliable internet connection and a device such as a laptop, tablet or iPad. We also recommend that therapy is completed in a quiet environment at a desk or table.

Can we use your telehealth service while waiting for face-to-face therapy?
Absolutely! Whether you're here to stay, or are planning to move on to an in-person service we're here working towards the same overarching goal - to support your child's development and skills in communication. We also understand that telehealth isn't for everyone! Give us a try to see if telehealth works for you and your child.
